Useful information
- Purchase of any object at street traders in St. Peter's Square and adjacent areas is not recommended.
- Whoever, without a guide identification card issued by Rome Provincial Administration, gets in touch with you personally suggesting guided tours in the area of St. Peter's Square or near the Vatican Museums, is carrying out said activity illegally. Refrain from accepting their proposals.
- Tickets to participate in the general Audiences of the Holy Father on Wednesdays are free and can be requested by following the indications contained in the Vatican City State website.
- All persons going to St. Peter's Basilica shall be subject to police checks through metal detectors. Disabled people and pacemaker holders can benefit from a dedicated entry gate under St. Peter's Square right colonnade.
- A dress code is enforced at St. Peter's Basilica: no shorts, bare shoulders or miniskirts are permitted.
- Pets are not allowed inside the Basilica.
- During public holidays it is recommended to make the visit from 08:30 to 10:30 and from 16:00 to 18:30 in order to avoid a long wait due to a considerable influx of believers and tourists towards St. Peter's Basilica.
- For any need a round-the-clock Office of the Ispettorato di Pubblica Sicurezza "Vaticano is available near the "Bronze Door" in St. Peter's Square (behind the metal detectors).
