Olympic Games: Italy helps lift security
Security at major international events that attract millions of people cannot be managed by the host country alone but requires the cooperation of law enforcement entities worldwide.
Brazil, as host country of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, set up an International Police Cooperation Centre, based in Brasilia, where about 200 police officers from the competing countries work alongside.
Italy sent its experts to support its permanent police liaison offices in South America and to ensure security for its delegations and citizens. Experts from the Italian Polizia di Stato will exchange best practices in public order issues and in counterterrorism strategies, being Italy at the forefront of such struggles with other European partners.
The Italian public order and counterterrorism experts are from the International police cooperation Service (SCIP) of the Criminal Police Directorate.
