Italian EU Presidency: meeting on citizens' security

COSI (Committee on Internal Security) and CATS (Article 36 Committee with a coordinating role regarding police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters) had an informal joint meeting yesterday as part of the initiatives of the Italian Presidency of the EU Council.

The informal meeting was held in the "Alcide De Gasperi" hall of the Italian Police Academy in Rome, with the participation of the directors of the European agencies concerned (Europol, Cepol, Eurojust, Frontex, and Fra), the delegates from the European Commission, the General Secretariat of the Council and the European External Action Service.

The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Chief of Police Matteo Piantedosi, addressed important issues concerning citizens' security. Special emphasis was placed on cyber crime, fight against terrorism, and criminal infiltration in the legal economy. The outcomes of the meeting will be formalized by the Presidency and presented in September.
