Security: The Immigration Fraud Conference
Identity document forgery and analysis, training and electronic border control systems: these were some of the topics discussed at the "Immigration Fraud Conference", held on Sept. 29-Oct. 3, 2014, at the Interagency College of Advanced Studies for Law Enforcement Officials in Rome.
The event, jointly organized by the Italian Forensic Police and the Border and Foreigners Police Service of the Department of Public Security, was attended by experts in the field of documentary fraud and travel document checks.
The field experts meet once a year to exchange information and best practices in areas of mutual interest. In addition to the Italian delegation, the meeting was attended by 45 experts from 15 European countries and from Canada, as well as representatives of two international agencies, namely Frontex and Icao.
The meeting focused on the new trends in illegal immigration and the relevant modi operandi, on the most challenging forms of identity document forgery, with a highlight on the training activities organized by Germany, Sweden and Frontex.
A working session was also dedicated to new technologies for document analysis. Particular interest aroused Finland and Portugal with their presentations respectively on e-Gates and a new document analysis system.
The National Printing Institute and Mint presented the new security features of Italian identity papers and travel documents.
