Italian EU Presidency: conference on trafficking in human beings
"Prevention of trafficking in human beings": this was the focus of the conference held on December 3-5, at the National Police Academy in Rome, within the framework of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meeting of the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN) was attended by nearly 100 delegates from EU member states and European institutions.
The Network, which was reorganized in 2009, has among its goals the identification of crime prevention best practices and the sharing of knowledge and experiences between EU member countries, so to foster cooperation and develop common strategies of crime prevention.
Among the speakers, there were representatives of the major international organisations dealing with trafficking in human beings, as well as a number of academics.
In the future, the EUCPN will be changed into a full-fledged European Crime Prevention Observatory.
After the working sessions, Denmark received the European Crime Prevention Award for the best project, followed by France and Romania.
The conference ended with the flag handover ceremony, with Italy handing the flag on to Latvia, the next country that will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
