Special training on counter-terrorism
In the aftermath of the deadly attack on the offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano, as part of a broader plan of counter-terrorism measures, has asked to work out a project for a police refresher training on territory control. In relation to the terrorist threat, the project is aimed at
- properly updating police training and
- setting up specialized intervention teams within the General Prevention and Public Aid Offices of the Provincial Police Headquarters (Questure).
The project, starting by the end of March, will consist of training modules aimed at general training and regular refresher training on self-defense measures and operational response.
The main innovation introduces the employment of specially trained teams within the territory control services to intervene in a terrorist emergency.
These emergency response teams will be staffed with officers selected, trained and equipped specifically.
Last 17 February, during a meeting of the National Committee for Public Order and Security, Interior Minister Alfano had already given specific instructions to the police forces so that all necessary steps could be taken to raise the alert level on account of the IS threat.
