The Secretariat deals with personnel, public order and security services, legislation and parliamentary affairs, external relations and protocol.

Office for the General Administration of the Public Security Department
Ufficio per l'amministrazione generale del Dipartimento di Pubblica Sicurezza

It deals with research and advice in public security issues, and maintains relations with police trade unions. It comprises also the Adminstrative and Social Police Office, which regulates and advises on permits released by the police, including arms and explosives.

This Directorate deals with the organization of personnel, and technical and logistical resources. It provides assistance to police personnel, former officers and officers' family members. It also organizes social, tourist and cultural activities.

Central Directorate for Health Services

This Directorate coordinates the activities of police medical officers, who evaluate psychophysical requirements in recruiting personnel and ascertain their health conditions. Medical officers are also employed in civil defence and rescue operations, and to safeguard health conditions in workplaces.
