Ispettorato Vaticano: The Pope's guardian angels
The Ispettorato di Pubblica Sicurezza "Vaticano" (the Italian Police Office at the Vatican State) was set up to protect the Sovereign Pontiff and watch over the Holy buildings in the Vatican City, all activities falling within the competence of the Italian authorities. Furthermore it carries out other security tasks as established in agreement with the competent authorities of the Holy See.
It was established in 1945 as Ufficio Speciale di PS San Pietro and kept said name until June 1954 when it became the Ispettorato Generale di PS at the Vatican .
Since March 2001 it has been named Ispettorato di Pubblica Sicurezza Vaticano.
