Safety at sea while cruising
Before starting to sail, check your boat's conditions through an inspection of equipments, interiors, engine, and instrumentation.
Essential checks:
Make sure you have fuel enough to go and come back, allowing a fuel reserve for any last-minute hitches, and check the engine is in perfect working order;
Make sure the drain plug is on. While cruising, check the only open valve is the sea cock valve to cool down the engine. Always bring a sufficient quantity of fresh water with you;
Always keep aboard oars, distress rockets, and a lifebelt for each person on board;
Ensure the batteries are loaded and check the radio on board is working.
